Câu điều kiện ngược: Sử dụng câu điều kiện với “if” đảo ngược

Câu điều kiện ngược (inverted conditional sentences) là cách dùng câu điều kiện trong tiếng Anh khi bạn muốn nhấn mạnh một điều kiện không thể xảy ra hoặc hiếm xảy ra. Câu điều kiện ngược thường dùng trong các câu điều kiện loại III (không có khả năng xảy ra trong hiện tại hoặc quá khứ).

Cách sử dụng câu điều kiện ngược với “if” đảo ngược:

Loại III (không thể xảy ra trong quá khứ):
- Câu điều kiện thông thường: “If I had known about the meeting, I would have attended.”
- Câu điều kiện ngược: “Had I known about the meeting, I would have attended.”
Trong câu điều kiện ngược, bạn lược bỏ “if” và đảo vị trí của chủ ngữ với động từ quá khứ hoàn thành.
Loại II (không thể xảy ra trong hiện tại):
- Câu điều kiện thông thường: “If I were rich, I would travel the world.”
- Câu điều kiện ngược: “Were I rich, I would travel the world.”
Trong câu điều kiện ngược loại II, bạn lược bỏ “if” và đảo vị trí của chủ ngữ với động từ “to be” trong thì quá khứ (were).
Loại I (hiện tại có thể xảy ra):
- Câu điều kiện thông thường: “If it rains, I will stay home.”
- Câu điều kiện ngược: “Should it rain, I will stay home.”
Trong câu điều kiện ngược loại I, bạn dùng động từ “should” thay cho “if” và lược bỏ “if”.

Loại III: Had + chủ ngữ + V-ed/3 (quá khứ hoàn thành) + would have + V-ed/3
Loại II: Were + chủ ngữ + V (quá khứ) + would + V
Loại I: Should + chủ ngữ + V (hiện tại) + will + V
