Danh động từ (gerund) là một dạng của động từ kết thúc bằng “-ing” và hoạt động như một danh từ trong câu.

1. Danh động từ làm chủ ngữ

Danh động từ có thể đóng vai trò làm chủ ngữ trong câu:

• Exercising regularly is important for maintaining good health. (Việc tập thể dục thường xuyên là quan trọng để duy trì sức khỏe tốt.)

2. Danh động từ sau giới từ

Khi một động từ theo sau giới từ, nó thường phải ở dạng danh động từ:

• She is interested in learning new languages. (Cô ấy quan tâm đến việc học ngôn ngữ mới.)
• They apologized for being late. (Họ xin lỗi vì đến trễ.)

3. Danh động từ làm bổ ngữ

Danh động từ có thể làm bổ ngữ cho động từ “to be”:

4. Danh động từ sau các động từ nhất định

Một số động từ yêu cầu danh động từ sau chúng:

8. Danh động từ sau tính từ

Một số tính từ có thể được theo sau bởi danh động từ:

• They are excited about starting the new project. (Họ háo hức bắt đầu dự án mới.)

9. Danh động từ trong cụm danh từ

Danh động từ có thể được kết hợp với các danh từ khác để tạo thành cụm danh từ:
